Yep, it’s Wednesday, and My Climate Story continues our journey, quixotically and just a bit chaotically, to put in the WE—for climate literacy, for climate policy, and for climate readiness and resilience. This Wednesday took us to Philadelphia’s City Hall—or actually to one of the office buildings around our beautiful city hall. I thought we were meeting at the MSB but finally figured out we were at 1515 on the Parkway… it is honestly not so beautiful as City Oenn. But the team at the City’s Sustainability Office gets a lot done there nonetheless!
Project intern, Zey Oral, and I met at 1515 with six staff members to introduce MCS’s “Road Map to a New Climate Story.” (Check out the previous post in this new WEdnesday series for all the signposts leading to bringing 1000 climate stories to Harrisburg.)
In significant ways, today’s meeting was a kind of homecoming, since the SO has supported My Climate Story since its beginnings with a National Geographic Foundation grant that got us rolling (Covid be dammed).
On my way over from City Hall to 1515, I passed through the beautiful courtyard and out into Dilworth Park whose fountains and more ample shade were keeping many Philadelphians cool. !(I dread being outside now.) It’s the second week of September, and I sure am sweaty. One boy wisely just sat in the spray. (Was his school closed today because of another heat emergency?)
The WE is growing—meetings are added to our calendar—with high school teachers and administrators, university educators, and more.
Tomorrow, in the climate stories class I’m now teaching, we’ll have our first in a series of incredible guests: Genevieve Guenther! I am pinching myself at the luck WE have that she and others are so generous to make the trip to our classroom, to share their insights, to continue to build this momentum to chart a path toward a new climate story. This month and next we get to work with more guests, and talk in more meetings—and *not* the kind that should have been an email. More about those in future Wednesday updates.
